Frist and Reid send most Senators home,
saying Senate needs only 14 members

Group that ended filibuster will rule the country

Senators Bill Frist and Harry Reid argue on many issues but agree on one: The Senate no longer needs 100 members. From now on, all decisions will be made by 14.

As a result, Frist fired all Republican Senators who did not serve on the filibuster committee, and Reid gave a similar boot to most of his Democrats.

Frist and Reid said the country will save $225 million in senatorial salaries and office costs.

"The great news emerging from the decision to end the filibuster controversy is that we discovered the country doesn't need 100 senators mixing it up on major issues," Reid said while Frist nodded.

The 14 will confirm appointments to the Supreme Court, decide on funding the Iraq war, and settle the abortion issue once and for all.

"We 14 are the cream of the crop," Senators John Warner and Robert Byrd said in a joint statement. "The other 86 were way under-qualified. The country is better off without them."

As a result of their no longer being needed, Frist and Reid sent themselves home along with their colleagues.
